Lee

What we do

Gravity House, London contributes to post-production of Lee, the Kate Winslet-led biographical drama.

Gravity House is proud to have been involved in the editing process of Lee, a highly anticipated 2023 British biographical drama that tells the remarkable story of American photographer and war correspondent Lee Miller. Directed by Ellen Kuras in her feature directorial debut, the film stars Academy Award-winner Kate Winslet as Miller, a former fashion model turned war journalist for Vogue during World War II.

Lee is based on the 1985 biography The Lives of Lee Miller by Antony Penrose and was adapted for the screen by Liz Hannah, John Collee, Marion Hume, and Lem Dobbs. Joining Winslet in the stellar cast are Marion Cotillard, Andrea Riseborough, Andy Samberg, Noémie Merlant, Josh O'Connor, and Alexander Skarsgård.

What we used

Gravity House played a pivotal role in the production of Lee, where our team hosted and supplied Avid kit plus support for the editing team in central London.

Outcome

Lee explores the extraordinary life of Lee Miller (played by Kate Winslet), an American photographer and war correspondent who defied the odds stacked against female journalists to capture some of the most powerful images of World War II. Her documentation of key historical moments, including the napalm bombing at St. Malo, the liberation of Paris, and the atrocities at Buchenwald and Dachau concentration camps, came at an enormous personal cost.

The film, eight years in the making, faced challenges during production, including precarious funding. At one point, Kate Winslet, who also served as a producer, personally covered the cast and crew's salaries for two weeks to keep the project alive. Lee made its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 9, 2023, and will be released theatrically in the United Kingdom by Sky Cinema on September 13, 2024.
